HIT 221 - Quality Improvement and Assessment in Healthcare
Spring 2011

Welcome to Oakton!. My name is Arlene Sattler and I will be the instructor for this course in Quality Improvement and Assessment in Healthcare. I'm looking forward to working with each of you during the next eight weeks.

I have a varied background in the Health Information Technology profession. My most recent position was as the Manager of Quality Programs at the American Osteopathic Association where I also was a survey coordinnator. I have also been Director of Quality Management/Accreditation in the hospital setting. I have taught part-time at several universities including the University of Illinois Chicago HIM department and National-Louis University. I am also the HIT Advisor, helping prospective students through the application and admission process.

This course will focus on quality improvement and assessment in a variety of healthcare settings. Content includes implementation of quality tools and techniques as they relate to the health information department activities of acuter care hospitals, long-term care facilities, behavioral health settings, hospital outpatient and emergency departments, ambulatory care settings, and quality issues related to medical staff activities.
