This course covers a study of managerial accounting concepts.
Students can learn managerial accounting from the comfort of their own
homes!
The first thing I need from you is
your e-mail address. The summer semester begins on January 17th. Please send me an e-mail at my Oakon address: lvanwolv@oakton.edu
Include the course ACC154 in the subject line of your e-mail.
Once
the semester starts, keeping in communication with me within D2L is
crucial to your success in this course. Remember to check your D2L
e-mail at least three times a week!
I strongly recommend all students to complete the Self Evaluation for Potential Online Students at: http://www.ion.uillinois.edu/resources/tutorials/pedagogy/selfEval.asp
Course Materials:
We
will be using the e-book included with the MyAccountingLab access code.
You do not need
to purchase the hard copy of the textbook.

Managerial Accounting: 2nd Edition, by Braun/Tietz/Harrison; Pearson, 2010.
We will be using D2L along with the textbook. You can access D2L from your home through your Internet service provider.
Supported Browsers:
See the D2L Student Guide at: http://www.oakton.edu/user/4/dannf/D2L/studenthelp/9.1/9.1LearnerHelp/learningenvironment/about_le.htm
Logging on:
The format for student login ID is:
<first initial><up to seven letters of the last
name><last four digits of their Oakstar
ID>*
For example, a student named George Washington with Oakstar ID: B1234567, would have the Oakton login ID gwashing4567. NOTE: The system is case sensitive.
*The Oakstar ID number is assigned by the College. You can find your Oakstar ID number on your students' bill.
Initial passwords will now be 6-digit birth dates instead of Social Security numbers. For example, a birth date of December 17, 2002 would create the password 121702.
Students may look up their ID information online at http://www.oakton.edu/resource/it/idlookup.html.
Communication:
All communication needs to use the email option within D2L. If you are having problems accessing the D2L site, I can be contacted at lvanwolv@oakton.edu.
Schedule:
The calendar gives the pace of the course. There are specific deadlines for the graded assignments. The quizzes and Discussion Questions can not be completed after the due date. The MyAccountingLab assignments, projects and exams completed after the deadline will be reduced for late submission.
This course will require you to spend a minimum of 4 to 8 hours per chapter working on course material.
Testing:
There
are three proctored exams during the semester which need to be
completed in the one of the Oakton testing centers
in Des Plaines or Skokie. If you are outside of the Oakton area, you
will need to contact me immediately so we can find a suitable testing
center for you to complete the exams. You can
check the testing centers hours at:
http://www.oakton.edu/learn/testhome.htm
General Information:
Tuition payment deadline - Students registering after December 8th have just two business days to pay their tuition, and are not sent a bill. The computer system periodically scans registration records and drops all students who have outstanding payments, continuing this process after the start of classes.
Notice: Beginning fall 2011 semester, tuition bills will only be available
online. Bills will no longer be mailed to your home. Students can access their electronic tuition statement by
logging on to myOakton.
