Oakton
Community College has received a renewal award for the STEP
grant from the National Science Foundation to form the Center
for Promoting STEM (CP-STEM). The successes of the programs
offered by the previous STEP grant relied heavily on expertise
and support from various individuals at the College and
the community including area schools, the industries, and
others promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Under the new grant, CP-STEM will also need to rely greatly
on expertise and support from all these areas.
CP-STEM welcomes the involvement, support, and sponsorship of corporations who are interested
in our mission
Opportunities to engage with CP-STEM include:
• Becoming an advisor of our Council
of Industry and Academic Advisors.
• Providing feedback on the skills and knowledge needed
from the workforce.
• Recommending ways CP-STEM could prepare students
to be able to meet the needs of industry.
• Helping Oakton faculty develop real world application
modules.
• Assisting CP-STEM to establish a network of industry
professionals.
• Advising CP-STEM on external funding for sustainability.
• Becoming a career mentor for Oakton students interested
in STEM fields.
• Offering STEM internships. |
