Simulations (SIT-SIMs)
High school teachers may participate in two different ways.
The teacher will have an opportunity to review simulations
to determine whether they are appropriate for high school
students. The teacher will have an opportunity to bring
students to the SIT-SIMs at Oakton and participate in the
activities along with the student. If SIT-SIMs is held on
a week day, the teacher receives CPDUs for attending. If
it is held on Saturday, the teacher receives CPDUs and compensation.
Conference
on Promoting STEM (CoPS)
During the summer, teachers will be invited to attend CoPS
to expand on concepts presented at the SIT-Sims including
ways to design real world interdisciplinary activity. CPDU
and stipend will be offered to attendees.
Peer
Tutor Training Program
Interested students may ask a teacher to complete a recommendation
checklist so they may apply to the Peer Tutor Training Program.
Checklist includes evaluating student’s knowledge
and ability to communicate math.
STEM
Fellowship Program
Teachers will distribute information to graduating high
school students to encourage participate in our STEM fellowship
program when they attend Oakton Community College.
Promoting STEM
Teachers will discuss goals in common with CP-STEM that
will lead to sharing & collaboration on simulation activities
for high school students. Teachers will meet to discuss
necessary skills that require STEM knowledge and experience
in the industries. Teachers and CP-STEM will share what
individual schools are doing in this area. Stipend will
be offered to attendees.
