  Description
  This program will support students in five courses: MAT052 (Elementary Algebra), COL101 (College Success Seminar), EGL101 (Composition I), EGL102 (Composition II), MAT120 (Intermediate Algebra), and PSY101 (Introductory Psychology). As tandem courses, MAT052 and COL101 must be taken at the same time.
  Contents of these courses are woven with study skills and rich materials in STEM to enhance students' learning and increase students' interests in these areas. Students in the program will participate in the activities of STEM seminars, field trips and student clubs of STEM. They will work with their faculty mentors for prompt and individualized help.

 

Participants will receive the following benefits:

 

  • $1,000 NSF-Oakton STEM Fellowship ($500 in fall; $500 in the following spring),
  • Opportunity to receive another $600 NSF-Oakton STEM Fellowship in the next academic year through the STEM Mentoring Program,
  • Mentoring from a faculty member,
  • Increased exposure to STEM through special speaker events, workshops, club activities, and field trips,
  • Excellent instruction of MAT052/120, COL101, and EGL101/102 courses
  Participants in SEP are not eligible for the SMP Fellowship.
