In collaboration with Oakton's Honors Program and Learning Center, S³ trains honors students who are taking or have taken higher level science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses* to become tutors. As an honors project, an S³ participant will participate in ten-hour training focusing on student learning styles, instructional strategies for strengthening students' academic performance, teaching/learning theories and techniques, and active peer collaboration in processing course materials. They will be assigned to observe a STEM class, lead a study session for the class two hours per week, and communicate with the instructor about course contents and issues students raised during study sessions.
