Welcome
Chad Ganger have been teaching at Oakton Community College since
1977. Oakton awarded him for “Outstanding Teaching Effectiveness”
in 1982 and a Presidential Citation for “Excellence in
Professional Achievement." in 1986. The HVACR Program
at Oakton Community College received “Outstanding Branch
Chapter Award” by RSES (Chicago Chapter). Chad
received“Man of the Year” and “Instructor
of the Year” from RSES Chapter.
Chad has contributed working along with other educators of Council
of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Educators in the development
of PAHRA (Partnership for Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration
Accreditation) for HVACR technicians training program accreditation.
He participates regularly in annual instructor workshop given by
ARI. He has attended many annual RSES Conferences and has conducted
seminars for ASHRAE Illinois Chapter and contributed to AFE’s
Education committee.
Students are encouraged to take the ICE (Industry Competency Excellence)
exam administered by ARI. Students participate in ASHRAE’s
student night and RSES’s technical topics at local chapters.
In the past, HVACR industry related educational seminars and Trade
shows were organized at the college in cooperation with the Chicago
chapter of RSES. Past students of the program have achieved great
career growth, such as, National Distribution Manager for Carlyle
Compressors (a Division of Carrier Corporation), teaching
at a vocational school, building automation system designer, and
becoming HVACR System engineering and service specialist for Carrier
Corporation product line. Many work for HVACR contractors. Some
opened their own business. Students should also look into the Facilities
Engineering and Facilities Management program if they desire to
work in large buildings such as hospitals, hotel / motel, educational
institutions and manufacturing facilities.
He chose teaching after spending a several years in private industry.
He was progressively promoted to Section Head position of HVAC,
Energy Conservation and Fire Protection and Plumbing Department.
His industry experience includes: directing heat transfer engineering
designs for large manufacturing plant’s energy which conserved
HVACR systems, and petrochemical facility control rooms, and class
100 clean rooms for copper-clad lamination manufacturing plant as
well as high-rise buildings such as Standard Oil Building in Chicago,
Oakwood beach water pollution control project, New York, Solid waste
to energy recovery, Pinnelas County, Florida, Copper clad laminations
manufacturing facility with Class 100 clean room design, Polyester
cotton manufacturing facility, etc. In 1978 his energy conserving
design for an office and laboratory building (Dow Corning Corporation)
which included Geothermal well water use for air conditioning and
active solar domestic water heating system was entered by the client
for "National Energy Conservation Awards Competition.”
His interests are in investing, playing chess, reading (from
technical literature to National Geographic magazine), and keeping
abreast of national and international politics.
