“EXCUSE MY DUST”: DOROTHY PARKER FEE: $15 “Excuse my dust” is the epitaph Dorothy Parker (1893-1967) suggested for herself. We won't excuse it! Instead, wewill exhume the life and times, and wit and wisdom, of this caustic poet. Parker was an insightful writer ofbittersweet short stories, an award-winning Hollywood screenwriter, playwright, noted drama and literary critic, wisecracking political commentator, and founder of the acerbic Algonquin Circle (which also included RobertBenchley, Alexander Woollcott, and George S. Kaufman). Read her words, see excerpts of her portrayal byJennifer Jason Leigh in Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, and discuss her cultural impact.
