Assignment 3a - Venn Diagrams

 

 Put these arguments into the standard form, diagram them, and indicate whether or not they are valid.



1.        Frogs (F) are green animals (G).
       Not a single green animal lives in the water (W).
      
No frog lives in the water.

  

 

 

 

2.        Some dogs (D) are poodles (P).
 Some poodles have fleas (F).
 Thus, some dogs have fleas.








3.        All athletes (A) use steroids (S).
 Every people who uses  steroids suffers liver damage (D).
 All athletes suffer liver damage.








4.        Every reptile (R) is a cold-blooded animal (C).
 Most cold-blooded animals don't make good pets (P).
 Thus, Some reptiles don't make good pets.

 




 

 

5.        No Buddhist (B) is a Muslim (M).
 All Muslims are monotheists (T).
 Thus, no Buddhist is a monotheist.







6.        Jack (J) visits his parents every week (V).
 People who love their parents (L) visit their parents every week.
 Thus, Jack loves his parents.






 

7.    No novels (N) are published in London (L),
       But since some books (B) are not novels,
       Some books are  published in London.

 

 



 

8.        Some veterans (V) are students (S), and
 all veterans believe that the U. S. should attack Iraq (A).
 Thus, at least a few students believe that the U. S. should attack Iraq.

 

 

 


9.        Only students (S) can get in for free (F).
 
Since Mike (M) is not a student,
 he can get not get in for free.







10.      No dog (D) is a fish (F).
   No fish is a bird. (B).
  Thus, no dog is a bird.
