Finishing Your Ethics Journal

Remember that you must hand in your entire journal to receive a final grade on it.  The journals are due on the last day of class.  You may give me a stamped, self-addressed envelope to return your journal, or you may pick it up next semester.  Here are the suggested questions for the third part of your journal:

Do you agree more with Nozick’s libertarian conservatism or with Rawls’ liberalism?  Explain the philosophical reasons for your position.

Do you agree with Marx’s theory of alienation and the critique of capitalism that it offers?  If not, explain where Marx has made a mistake in his reasoning.  If you do  agree, apply the theory of alienation to some aspect of your life as a student or a worker or to some aspect of contemporary American society.

What do you think that the United States should do now in Iraq?  Base your claim on your ethical theory and on your understanding of the current situation.

What ethical theory do you endorse?  Why?  Have any of your views on ethics changed over the semester?  If so, how?

If you would like to discuss some aspect of the readings not emphasized in class, that is fine.  You may also discuss any events you attended that were relevant to the study of ethics.
