Study Guide for the Second Quiz

  1. Know the definitions at the ends of Chapters Four and Five. Questions will take the form of matches.
  2.

  3. Be prepared to cast arguments as you learned to do in Chapter 4. On the quiz there will be a number of very simple arguments to cast. There will also be one or two more complex arguments. Be sure to distinguish between independent premises and interdependent premises. Be sure you know how to cast sub-arguments, concession claims, and unstated premises and conclusions.
  4.

  5. Be sure that you understand how to supply missing premises.  This is described in Chapter 5.  In order to correctly cast some arguments, you must be able to do this.
  6.

  7. There will be review questions on this quiz so you need to consult the first study guide. Some of the same questions that appeared on the first quiz might be on the second quiz.  In particular, you should review the vocabulary.
