Study Guide for Logic Quiz # 3
- There will be one argument to cast on this quiz.
- Study the definitions at the end of Chapter 6.
- Practice translating categorical statements into the standard form and testing
categorical syllogisms for validity using Venn diagrams. Be able to do
what you did on the homework assignment.
- Review the square of opposition and the immediate inferences it suggests. Be able to
recognize and produce the contradictory, the contrary, etc. of a categorical statement.
- Understand the six argument forms with hypothetical and disjunctive premises and know which ones are
valid. Study the chart on page 181. You will be asked to do what you did in
assignment 3b.
- Know how to use truth tables to test for validity. The tutorial on the web provides
practice.
- There will be some extra credit questions about the history of
Afghanistan and the current crisis.
