About COM
200 courses
Students who have successfully completed at least one COM
class at Oakton are eligible to receive credit in a specially-created COM 200
section. There normally are two different areas of study in these classes:
·
Internships
Students receive college credit for
securing and going through a broadcast internship. Students are responsible for
“landing” the internship. The student
(in concert with Professor Burton) determines the amount of college credit to
be earned. (This usually varies between 1-3 semester hours and is based on the
workload. The instructor and the student
mutually develop a learning contract that includes course objectives and
credits to be assigned.)

·
Production
Practicums
These sections, also created
expressly for qualifying students, provide an opportunity to develop video
production and post-production skills while receiving college credit. Students
in these sections create an original video project, write the script, then shoot and edit the material into a final, professional
form. The student (in concert with Professor Burton) determines the amount of
college credit to be earned. (This usually varies between 1-3 semester hours
and is based on the complexity of the project(s) contracted.)
All COM 200
courses require the instructor’s consent.
