The Student Services Center offers the following advising/counseling

services as well as resources for students and community residents:

• Schedule planning

• Transfer planning/information

• Career counseling

• Internet access to college web sites

• Information about scholarship opportunities

Bookstore Room A130, (847) 635-1421

The Bookstore at the Ray Hartstein Campus provides instructional related

supplies, software, gift items and photo developing services. Books may be purchased online through Follett’s.

Payments of tuition, fees and fines are made in the Bookstore.

Computer Labs Room P230, (847) 635-1488

The computer labs are intended primarily to support classroom instruction. All registered Oakton students in credit classes, as well as those registered for non-credit computer based classes, can have computer lab access.

The open labs have both general software and specialized software for specific classes available for student use.

For further information about hours or policies governing computer lab use, ask for a copy of the Guide to the Computer Labs at Oakton.

The Faculty Support Office provides support and information for students and faculty at the Ray Hartstein Campus. Among the services available are

The Cafeteria at the Ray Hartstein campus offers a limited food service when classes are in session.

Staffed by a registered nurse, Health Services provides information and health related services to enrolled Oakton students. These services include

• Emergency treatment/treatment of minor illness

• Tuberculosis skin tests

• Health education programs

• Health, birth control & sexuality information

• Throat cultures

• Pregnancy Tests

• Blood Pressure screening

• Urine Tests

• Blood glucose testing

• Cholesterol screening

• Althletic physical exams

• Allied Health student's physical exams and laboratory testing referrals

• Referral services

The Language Lab supports students taking modern language courses, as well as students taking English as a Second Language courses. Services provided include:

• Audio and video stations for student use

• Modern language CD duplication

• Modern language conversation groups

• Multimedia PCs with Internet access

• Library of ESL audio and print materials

• Modern language and ESL software/videos

• Basic computer workshops

The Learning Center provides academic support to all students who want to develop, improve and refine their learning skills. The Learning Center offers the following programs and services:

• Free tutoring for Oakton students in many subjects

• Testing Center for the following tests:

        placement • make-up • media-based • online • Constitution • tests from other institutions

• Consultations for study skills improvement

• Computers for class visits and student use

• Educational software and other learning resources

• ESL/non-native student advising

• Support for students with documented disabilities (ASSIST)

• Student Support Services/TRiO: a program that provides services for first generation college and low-income students

Public Safety Room C100, (847) 635-1422

The mission of the Public Safety Department is to provide a safe college environment and to protect College property. Oakton Public Safety officers are trained and sworn peace officers with the same authority as city/county officers, including the power of arrest. In the event of a crime or accident, reports should be made to the public safety office.

Public Safety provides such services as:

• Lost and found

• Booster pac for jumpstarts

• Assistance to unlock your car

• Escort service at request

The Transfer Center provides assistance that helps students make a smooth and successful transition from Oakton to four-year colleges and universities. Transfer Center staff complements the regular advising services provided through the Student Services Centers. The Center’s staff is also dedicated to increasing the number of minority students who transfer to baccalaureate institutions. The Transfer Center provides:

• Personalized advising assistance

• Computer links and other resources to explore college and financial aid opportunities

• Transfer course planning guides

•Appointments with university representatives
