Computer Applications for Business Internship

I.     Course Prefix/Number: CAB 251

       Course Name: Computer Applications for Business Internship

       Credits: 3 (2 lecture;10 lab)

II.    Prerequisite

Completion of a minimum of 15 credits in CIS, CAB, or CNS with a grade of C or better in each course and consent of instructor, department coordinator, or program chair.

III.   Course (Catalog) Description

Course consists of direct work experience in a computer application related environment at an approved business or industrial firm applying knowledge and skills learned to their daily assigned responsibilities.  The student will meet with a Computer Applications for Business instructor who will evaluate their on-the-job technical skills.  Arrangements for the work experience will be worked out in conjunction with the Computer Applications for Business coordinator.  In addition, the student will discuss work-related situations with the instructor.

V.    Academic Integrity and Student Conduct

Students and employees at Oakton Community College are required to demonstrate academic integrity and follow Oakton's Code of Academic Conduct. This code prohibits:

VII.  Methods of Instruction

Individual meetings to discuss work environment
Meetings with supervisor and student
Classroom experience with instructor

Students will meet once a week in an instructional setting to evaluate and discuss the technical skills used and on-the-job experiences

Course may be taught as face-to-face, hybrid or online course.

VIII. Course Practices Required

Work a minimum of 10 hours per week in a computer-related environment
On-the-job performance strengthening technical skills, communications skills (oral and written, listening, reading), interpersonal skills, and problem solving skills
