III.   Course (Catalog) Description

Course covers the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in a larger and more complex network. Content includes how to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches for advanced functionality. Students learn to resolve common issues with OSPF, EIGRP, STP, and VTP in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Students will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement DHCP and DNS operations in a network.  Course presents most recent release of the Cisco curriculum.  This is the third course in the Cisco Routing and Switching sequence of four courses.

IV.   Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Configure and troubleshoot DHCP and DNS operations for IPv4 and IPv6
  2. Understand and describe the operations and benefits of the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
  3. Configure and troubleshoot STP operations
  4. Understand and describe the operations and benefits of link aggregation and Cisco VLAN Trunk Protocol (VTP)
  5. Configure and troubleshoot VTP, STP, and RSTP
  6. Configure and troubleshoot basic operations of routers in a complex routed network for IPv4 and IPv6
    1. Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol (single-area OSPF and multi-area OSPF)
    2. Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)
  7. Configure and troubleshoot advanced operations of routers and implement RIP, OSPF, and EIGRP routing protocols for IPv4 and IPv6
  8. Manage Cisco IOS® Software licensing and configuration files

V.    Academic Integrity and Student Conduct

VII.  Methods of Instruction

A combination of lectures, lab, and on-line activities will be used to master the material.

Course may be taught as face-to-face, hybrid or online course.

VIII. Course Practices Required

All Cisco lessons and chapter tests must be completed as well as the assigned laboratories. Reading material from supplemental sources as assigned must be read and a structured journal is kept.

X.    Methods of Evaluating Student Progress

All assigned work must be completed and the Cisco on-line final examination must be passed. Failure to pass the Cisco final exam will keep the student from being able to register for the next course in the sequence.
