Enjoy an evening of jazz music at Oakton Dec. 8

(Dec. 1, 2017)  Oakton Community College’s Jazz Band wraps up the semester with an exhilarating evening of jazz favorites during “Jazz Invasion” 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the college’s Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Road.

Oakton’s Jazz Band is directed by Robert Evans, an accomplished performer, clinician and conductor throughout Illinois. Previously, he has served as director of bands at LaSalle-Peru High School and Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

“During the evening, we will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great jazz pianist and composer, Thelonious Monk, known for his unique improvisational style,” Evans says.

In addition, featured soloists will swing to the works of Mercer Ellington, Richard Rodgers, Stevie Wonder, Patrick Williams, Rick Hirsch and Rob Vuono.

A pre-concert “Take Note Conversation” will guide attendees inside the music before “Jazz Invasion” in Oakton’s Performing Arts Center lobby. The discussion begins at 7:30 p.m. and provides background and insight on featured pieces.

General admission tickets are $5 and $3 for students and seniors. Call 847.635.1900 or purchase tickets online at www.oakton.edu/tickets.
