Oakton’s Manager of High School Equivalency Program (GED) Receives College’s Living Diversity Award

(Sept. 24, 2018) Jordana Lambropoulos, Oakton Community College GED manager, is the recipient of Oakton’s 2018 Living Diversity Award. The award celebrates the idea of “creating a college environment of equity, inclusion, care, compassion and respect for people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.”

Lambropoulos, a resident of Lincolnwood, was recognized at the college’s fall semester kickoff. Selected by the Oakton Diversity Council, the award comes with a $1,500 monetary stipend sponsored by the Oakton Community College Educational Foundation.

“Jordana is a passionate advocate in removing barriers to student success – even going so far as to pay for student fees and extend help with basic needs,” Oakton President Joianne Smith says. “She is tireless in the fight for equity and opportunity, stands up for students of various backgrounds and remains mindful of the multifaith calendar when scheduling college functions.”

In her role at the college, Lambropoulos is responsible for overseeing Cook County residents who are interested in earning a high school equivalency diploma. Upon completion of required placement testing, community members are then able to enroll in classes at Oakton.

“This is so overwhelming and I never expected to receive this award,” Lambropoulos says. “It’s an honor to be recognized.”

In addition to her duties at Oakton, Lambropoulos is active in the community volunteering at orphanages, hospitals and health clinics.

“I’ve been doing service projects since the age of 12 and it’s our duty to give back to the community to help others,” she says.

Lambropoulos began working at Oakton in 2000. She has a master’s degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona.
