Oakton’s Irving selected NJCAA Region IV Player of the Week

(Dec. 5, 2018) Oakton Community College guard Jordan Irving (Morton Grove, Maine East High School) was selected as the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region IV Division II District 4 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 25-Dec. 1. The honor is the first for Irving and for the Owls in the 2018-19 season.

In three contests during the week, Irving averaged 23.7 points, six rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, leading the Owls to a 2-1 record. The sophomore tallied a season-high 40 points in Oakton’s 91-83 victory over Kishwaukee College Dec. 1.

“Jordan had a great week shooting the ball and running the team even though he is the focal point of opposing defenses,” says head coach Mick Reuter. “The most impressive stat to me is that he only committed three turnovers in the three games and zero in the 40-point effort.”

On the season, Irving leads the Owls in scoring (22.5 points per game). In addition, he is averaging 5.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest.

“He has taken his game to another level this season,” Reuter adds.
