Computer Applications for Business (CAB)(Also see Computer Information Systems, Computer Networking and Systems, Electronics and Computer Technology and World Wide Web) The Computer Application for Business curriculum develops skills in commonly used software including the Windows operating system, word processing, spreadsheeting, databases, presentation graphics, and desktop publishing. Courses develop supervisory skills, enhance business productivity, and enhance skills in communications, human relations, and modern office technology systems and procedures. Oakton offers the A.A.S. Degree with emphasis in either Desktop Publishing or Office Desktop Publishing. In addition eight certificate programs are offered: Administrative Assistant; Desktop Publishing Professional; Desktop Publishing Specialist; Executive Support Specialist; Microsoft Office Specialist Core (MOS); Microsoft Office Specialist Excel Expert; Microsoft Office Specialist Word Expert; Office Information Processing Specialist. The Desktop Publishing certificate prepares students to use current software for working with text, graphics, and photographs including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and QuarkExpress. Other certificates include courses in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, as well as the Windows operating system, and the World Wide Web. Students must earn a minimum grade of C in all CAB, CIS, and WWW courses in order to receive a certificate in the CAB curricula.
