Educators (EDN)
The Associate in Applied Science degree for Paraprofessional Educators
provides graduates with the credentials necessary to work as paraprofessinal
educators in numerous educational venues. These include both Title I
and non-Title I schools, public and private schools, charter and magnet
schools, as well as alternative schools and alternative educatinal settings.
Paraprofessionals in the field of education must be prepared to work
successfully with children in a variety of classroom and tutorial settings.
While the A.A.S. degree is not intended to transfer to baccalaureate
programs, some of its course may transfer. The required courses in this
degree program meet standards for paraprofessional educators as described
by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Committee on Paraprofessional
Certification as well as comprehensive technology stgandards adopted
by the Illinois State Board of Education. A student may receive credit
for a maximum of 20 semester credit hours earned through alternate education
experiences.
