CAB 106 KEYBOARD SPEED AND ACCURACY DEVELOPMENT--Credit: 1 Lecture:1 Lab: 1 1

PREREQUISITE:

Keyboarding skill 15 wpm

COURSE (CATALOG) DESCRIPTION:

This course designed to increase keyboarding speed and accuracy. Content includes assessing skills and prescribing individualized corrective practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

To improve speed and accuracy of typewriting skills.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

Students and employees at Oakton Community College are required to demonstrate academic inegrity and follow Oakton's Code of Academic Conduct. This code prohibits:

  • cheating
  • plagiarism (turning in work not written by you, or lacking proper citation)
  • falsification and fabrication (lying or distorting the truth)
  • helping others to cheat
  • unauthorized changes on official documents
  • pretending to be someone else or having someone else pretend to be you
  • making or accepting bribes, special favors, or threats
  • any other behavior that violates academic integrity

There are serious consequences to violations of the academic integrity policy. Oakton's policies and procedures provide students a fair hearing if a complaint is made against you. If you are found to have violated the policy, the minimum penalty is failure on the assignment and a disciplinary record will be established and kept on file in the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs for a period of 3 years.

E. Corrective Practice Drills for Speed and Accuracy

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

Skill building including diagnostic tests and appropriate drills.

COURSE PRACTICES REQUIRED:

A. Attend lab a minimum of two hours a week.
B. Attend seminars as scheduled.
C. Complete required assignments when due and take tests.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:

1. TEXTBOOK: Cortez Peter’s Championship Keyboarding Drills, 4th Edition by Cortez Peters.  Publisher- Glencoe/McGraw-Hill (Required)
2. 3 1/2" Disk or a USB Flash Drive (Required)

METHODS OF EVALUATING STUDENT PROGRESS:

Speed and accuracy improvement. -- 90%
Attendance and instructor evaluation of effort. -- 10%

Since students will be entering course at many skill levels, evaluation will be based on an individualized grading scale established by diagnostic tests and an interview with the instructor

Software Users!
