COURSE (CATALOG) DESCRIPTION:

This course explores role of executive support management professional. Content includes managing business and work life of executive, systems that support the executive in meeting business, administrative, social, and professional obligations. Focus is on creating comprehensive executive support system.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

By completion of this class, students will:

  1. Understand power relationships within the corporate setting
  2. Understand how to help the executive create and maintain beneficial relationships within the organization
  3. Understand how executives create their careers
  4. Understand the concept of impression management
  5. Be able to guide the executive in important aspects of business etiquette
  6. Be able to effectively schedule and manage daily events for the executive
  7. Be able to develop a partnership relationship with the executive
  8. Be able to set up effective systems to manage correspondence, documents, and records
  9. Understand and manage the life cycle information within the office
  10. Be able to track and control projects
  11. Be able to employ information technology in support of the executive
  12. Understand basic concepts of planning and goal setting
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

If you are found to have violated the policy, the minimum penalty is failure on the assignment and a disciplinary record will be established and kept on file in the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs for a period of 3 years.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

The course will be a combination of lecture-discussion and developmental exercises aimed at allowing students to discover and develop their executive support skills. Instruction will include the opportunity for practicing skills in exercises and simulations. Additionally, each student will be required to develop an executive support office plan for an executive.

COURSE PRACTICES REQUIRED:

All students will be expected to be active learners bringing their backgrounds and experiences to the class. They will be expected to come prepared to class and ready to contribute to the group experience. Additionally, they should be ready to offer and receive and act on constructive feedback from the class. Throughout the course, students will accomplish much of the work on teams.

METHODS OF EVALUATING STUDENT PROGRESS:

Evaluation will be based on assignments, tests, and participation.
