FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT FME
Facilities Management professionals coordinate the physical workplace with the people and work of the organization. They integrate principles of business administration, architecture, and behavioral and engineering sciences. They manage the operation and maintenance, renovation, allocation, utilization of space and equipment, and are employed throughout the country in private industry, government and non-profit sector.

Salary Wizard reports that Facilities Managers in the Chicagoland area in 2006 earn between $73,000 and $100,000.

It is suggested that individuals do their own surveys of the employers in the local area in which they are interested for more localized, up-to-date information on salaries in this field.

Education and training vary widely, but formal education is becoming more essential. A bachelor's degree is often needed in engineering, architecture, business administration, building construction, construction management, hotel and institutional management, or property management.

Facilities Management degrees are a relatively new but growing area of study. Related work experience demonstrating ability can be important.

Competent Facilities Engineers will be required to keep hospitals, educational institutions and facilities in the manufacturing, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries functional.

Please be aware that the academic curriculum for an associates degree or certificate is very different from the bachelor's degree. See your counselor for details.
