Students enrolled in the program include both novices and employed
individuals. The first group enrolls for entering the field of facilities
operation, the second for the career advancement or to meet specific
needs. Students can earn a Certificate or an Associate Degree. For
a Certificate, the student must receive 30 credit hours in prescribed
technical courses. An Associate Degree requires 60 credit hours;
of those 42 hours are of technical nature, and 18 hours of general
education. Credits earned for a Certificate can be applied toward
the Associate Degree.
In addition to credits for classes taken at Oakton, students can
receive credits for courses at non-accredited institutions and by
proficiency tests. For specifics, contact the Division of Mathematics
and Technologies at 847.635.1688.
Time Length for Receiving the Degree
Full time student can fulfill the degree requirements in two years.
Part-time students, most of whom are employed individuals, will
need a longer time. It will depend on credits transferred and how
many courses students take each semester.
Most courses are three credit hours, and are offered once a week
in the evening, from 6:30p.m. till 9:20 p.m. Except when prerequisites
must be satisfied, courses can be taken in any order. Technical
courses are recommended to be taken when offered, since not all
are available each semester.
