The Graphic Design Department: Practicum
What is a Practicum?
This is a learning experience (internship) outside the college in a professional setting relevant to the student's main area of study within the field of graphic design. Students gain practical, "real world" knowledge while working on the job.
GRD 251 3:0:15 Graphic Design Practicum
students will get experience in the graphic design field by working for a company that does work in graphic design. The job the student works at will be appropriate to his or her skills. The student will meet with the OCC instructor and provide detailed reports of the work experience.
Prerequisite: Completion of 24 credits comprised of courses listed under major requirements of the A.A.S. Graphic Design degree and completion of 12 hours from specified electives listed in the A.A.S. Graphic Design degree with minimum grades of C and the consent of chairperson.
GRD 252 3:0:15 Animation and Multimedia Practicum
The student will get experience in the graphic design field by working for a company that does work in graphic design. The job the student works at will be appropriate to his or her skills. The student will meet with the instructor and provide detailed reports on the work experience.
Prerequisite: Completion of 21 credits comprised of courses listed as requirements and completion of 6 hours from specified electives listed in the Animation and Multimedia certificate with minimum grades of C and consent of chairperson.
GRD 253 3:0:15 Web Graphic Page Design Practicum
The student will get experience in the Web Graphic Design field by working for a company that does work in Web Graphic Design. The job the student works at will be appropriate to his or her skills. The student will meet with the instructor and provide detailed reports of the work experience.
Prerequisite: Completion of 27 credits comprised of courses listed as requirements and completion of 6 hours from specified electives listed in the Web Graphic Page Design certificate with minimum grades of "C" and program chair's consent.
GRD 254 3:0:15 Photography Practicum
The student will get experience in the photography field by working for a company that does work in Photography. The job approved for the student will be appropriate to his or her skills. The student will meet with the instructor on a regular basis and provide detailed reports of the work experience.
Prerequisite: Completion of 24 credits comprised of courses listed under major requirements of the Photography Certificate and completion of 6 hours from specified electives listed in the Photography Certificate with minimum grades of "C" and program chair's consent. Student must secure placement at a business approved by program's chair in order to register for the course.
GRD 255 3:0:15 Game Development Practicum
The student gains experience in the game development field by working for a company that does work in game development. The job the student works at will be appropriate to his or her skills. The student will meet with the instructor and provide detailed reports of the work experience.
Prerequisite: Twelve hours from required courses listed in the Game Development Certificate with a minimum grade point average of C and program chair's consent.
