This is a
limited enrollment, 27 hour certificate program. The day program
in Des Plaines can be completed in 3 semesters. The evening option
at the Ray Harstein campus is designed for students unable to
attend day classes and can be completed in 5 semesters.
Students gain
a comprehensive working knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT coding
systems. Although this is primarily a hospital-based program,
physician's offices and insurance companies employ individuals
with knowledge and skill in the language and science of medicine
and coding systems. Coded medical information is used to determine
and secure appropriate reimbursement for health care services
rendered.
After completion
of this certificate, students may choose to continue into the
Associate
Degree program in HIT. All medical coding certificate courses
are applicable toward
the AAS Degree.
