The meeting convened at 5:30pm.
1. Welcome and Introduction
Members present: Martin Gartner, Dave Geller, Majid Ghadiri, Tim Hoffman, Bill Hood, John Poplawski, Sal Scafidi, Richard Schell, Bob Sompolski.
2. Status of the RFID program
The Committee received a report on the history of offering courses during the Fall '06 (RFD 101, MGT 155) and Spring '07 (RFD 101, RFD 102 and MGT 156) semesters. Class activities included field trips and assignments on implementation and design including return on investment.
3. iTech
A high school outreach activity on April 13, 2007 included over 100 students from various high schools within Oakton's district. Students generated bar code and RFID tags using Bartender. Other RFID applications were demonstrated using "bean bag" type games with footballs or frisbees.
4. Dinner
Was pretty good.
5. 2 year degree program (input from four-year institutions)
The Committee discussed the proposed AAS degree and options for it's completion. Suggestions are being collected at http://www.oakton.edu/acad/dept/mcs/rfd/associate.htm. Some inspiration came from previous communications with NIU staff who have accepted Oakton AAS degreed students for their BS in Industrial Technology program. 6. New course offerings: Physics of RFID/Security and privacy
Topics for two new RFD courses were discussed. For the Physics of RFID, suggested topics included wavelength, shielding, near and far field analyses. For RFID Security and Privacy, suggested topics included parcel and passports using RFID for the US Departments of State and Homeland Security, encryption issues and persistence and containment of collected personal data. Generic syllabi will be shared through the web site before the next meeting.
7. Technology trends in RFID and related training needs
Agriculture and food industries were mentioned, specifically with regards to the Canadian Grocery Industry. Biologistics also appeared to be an area where curricula could be developed.
8. What's next?
Discussion centered upon the use of optional case studies to complement the required case studies for RFD 103.
9. Community College training initiative
The training component of the last grant solicitation to the Dept. of Labor was described along with a proposal that Stratum Global has offered to Oakton to implement training without grant support. The College will be visited by administrative officials from Moraine Valley Community College on May 23 to tour the facilities and discuss additional options.
10. Seminar series

13. Next meeting date and time
If there is significant disagreement on the two year degree structure, a meeting will be called during early September to help facilitate paperwork submission that the College must file by mid-October. If all are in agreement with the proposed degree, the meeting will be scheduled later in the Fall semester.The meeting adjourned by 7:45 pm.
