August 15, 2006 P103 RHC (Acorn Room)
The meeting convened at 9:00am.
1. Introductions
Members present: Steve Carter, Sue Cisco, Martin Gartner, Dave Geller, Majid Ghadiri, Richard Harden, Jim LaPalermo, John Poplawski, Jad Rasul, Laura Saret, Bob Sompolski. Guests present: Roxann Marshburn, Lynn Seinfeld
2. Expansion of lab facilities, MFG and MGT curricula
The committee discussed the new portal made available by the Omron Corporation's donation as well as the Phase 2 construction of a portable portal along with new hand held units. Discussion of MGT 155, MGT 156 and MFG 162 led to suggestions of comparative cost analyses between auto-id techniques in MFG 162.
3. Courses (RFD 102, 103 and 104 need approval)
Various scheduling options, including accellerated courses, were discussed. The prerequisite for RFD 103 was modified to make RFD 101 required and RFD 102 recommended and addtional topics were added to the RFD 103 Outline of Topics. Text support for RFD 103 will be available by a campus-wide site license to RFID Journal to access online case studies. Oakton members will bring the courses to the College wide Curriculum Committee meeting during September.
4. Certificates (RFIDT and TWLM need approval)
The name of the RFIDT certificate was affirmed as being correct on the web site and on the brouchure. Oakton members will bring the certificates to the college wide Curriculum Committee meeting during September or October.
5. Degree program
A first discussion of a 2 year degree program promoted a request for more content on the physics of radio frequency and active technology. The proposed degree will be placed on the web site for further discussion. The intention is to approve the credential at the Spring 2007 meeting.
6. Marketing & Outreach (brochure)
The responses to the RFID brouchure and the Pavilion Pulse newsletter were positive. These items will be distributed by Oakton members at the RFID Summit in Lincolnshire during September. The college is soliciting a U.S. Department of Labor Community Based Job Training Grant and is seeking support for industrial intern positions and donations. Templated letters of support will be sent out to all advisory committee members. The meeting adjourned by 10:45 am.
