Meeting Minutes

December 10, 2007 P103 RHC

The meeting convened at 5:00 pm.

1. Introductions and refreshments
Members present: Sue Cisco, Dave Geller, Majid Ghadiri, Tim Hoffman, John Poplawski, Jennifer Strehler, Bob Sompolski.

2. AAS degree (needs approval)
The Committee approved the AAS degree with a recommendation that GBS 101 be used for satisfying the Contemporary Global Studies requirement. The proposed degree can be found at the following URL: http://www.oakton.edu/acad/dept/mcs/rfd/associate.htm.

3. Industry seminars
A report of the July, 2007 event was shared with the group and a February, 2008 event was announced. Discussion on specific markets (health care, pharmaceutical) led to an anlaysis of the potential of a portable version of the seminar. This could occur in hotel banquet facilities, industry specific sites or other schools. These modifications will be brought to the attention of the seminar developers and Oakton's non-credit office.

4. Lab manual update
Work is progressing on the update of the lab manual for RFD 101 and 102 to reflect the new release of TagNet. An electronic version of the draft is planned for March, 2008.

5. RFD 103
     a. Lab activities
An MS Powerpoint presentation that was shared by Stratum Global with Oakton staff could lead to potential laboratory activities. Issues associated with tags (security, cold chain) can also lead to potential laboratory exercises. Committee members agreed to helping schedule field trips for site visits.
b. Future offerings
Current Friday evening scheduling is not drawing significant enrollment. Other options that were discussed included Saturdays and Summer offerings. A final decision will be determined after enrollments for Spring 2008 have been completed.

c. Installation, Configuration and Optimization
A syllabus for such a course will be developed for Committee discussion by the Spring 2008 meeting.
