- Service learning is a strategy for learning and growing in which students actively apply the knowledge they have gained in the classroom to real community needs through involvement in service projects.
- Service learning occurs when community service is directly linked to academic learning. You should be aware that you are part of a growing movement on college and university campuses around the United States; thousands of students today are involved in service projects designed to enhance classroom learning, foster civic responsibility, and meet community needs.
- There is a growing body of research that demonstrates that students learn best when they apply their knowledge to a real-life context; service learning makes this possible.
