A message from the dean

Welcome to the Division of Languages, Humanities, and the Arts!

The beauty and rich diversity of human expression are celebrated in this academic division. Our departments offer opportunities to pursue knowledge and proficiency in writing for academic and professional purposes, literature, speech and presentation skills, theater and music, eleven modern languages and English as a Second Language, Global Studies, humanities and philosophy, Women’s Studies, fine arts, and graphic design, with specializations in photography, web page design, animation and multimedia, and game development.

The thread that unites these disciplines is a mission that encourages the exploration of human creativity, even as it develops critical and analytical skills and creates an atmosphere that supports open and engaged inquiry among all members of the college community.

Whether your interests are to complete your general education requirements for transfer, to pursue learning for personal enrichment, or to prepare for a specific career in the fields of written, oral, business, or visual communications, Oakton provides the opportunity to fulfill your dreams and your needs!

I encourage you to visit our campuses in Des Plaines and Skokie, talk with our outstanding faculty, attend a performance in our recently renovated theater spaces, and discover our state-of-the-art modern language labs and art, graphic design, and photography studios.
