Students and parents are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online in the Office of Student Financial Assistance or any other Internet access location. Applying online is free, secure, easy, and faster than the paper application process. While online, applicants are able to have their questions answered by FAFSA customer service representatives through a separate browser window.

Oakton Online Scholarship Application

Application Process

Step 1.
Go to www.pin.ed.gov to apply for a PIN (personal identification number). Students who secure PINs will be able to submit their FAFSA applications electronically without signing any paperwork.

Step 2.
Complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Remember to fill in the Oakton Community College school code: 009896. The Department of Education will process the application and send each student a Student Aid Report (SAR) by postal mail or e-mail, depending on how the FAFSA was originally submitted.

When the school code is listed on the application, Oakton's Office of Student Financial Assistance also receives an electronic version of the student's SAR, which assists the staff in determining financial aid eligibility.

Step 3.
All students are required to complete Financial Assistance Information. Some students will need to complete additional paperwork, and to submit additional documents such as copies of income tax forms, bank statements, untaxed income revenues, etc. You will be notified by letter regarding the specific documents needed for your file.

Step 4.
Submit all required documents to the Office of Student Financial Assistance. Applications take four to six weeks to process once all materials have been received.
