ESL FAQ


Is the non-credit ESL Program right for me?
Yes . . .

IF your speaking, reading, and writing skills are at the beginning level
*
IF you are not sure if you will attend a college or university
*
IF your skills are not at the advanced level and you need to take free classes



What courses are part of the non-credit ESL program?
We offer six levels of ESL in the free program, from beginning to high intermediate. We also offer a free Citizenship Preparation class. Tuition-based courses include Intensive ESL, Conversational English Practice, Intensive Grammar Review, Improve Your Pronunciation, Composition for Intermediate ESL Students, and TOEFL Preparation Seminar.



How do I register?
* For the free classes, choose the location and time that are best for you and register in
   person at the site where you want to take classes. Bring identification, including Social
   Security number if you have one. You will need to take a test to be placed in the correct
   level.
* You can register by mail or in person in the Alliance Office at Oakton Community College
   for the tuition-based classes.

What other programs and services at Oakton can help ESL students?
* If you need free tutoring, conversation groups, and other services, visit The Learning
   Center.
* If you need to find a good book, visit the Library.
* If you need to find a job or examine careers, visit Career Services.
* If you need to see a counselor or check on Oakton program requirements, visit the
   Advising and Counseling Center.
* The language labs have a large collection of ESL materials and services
