Hello! My name is Alison May, and I'm the new Student Support Services (SSS) TRiO Coordinator. I was a friend of Tina's and am honored that she suggested I apply for her position. I'm looking forward to meeting and working with all of you. My previous position was Director of SSS and Supervisor of the Services for Students with Disabilities office at Columbia College Chicago. I really enjoyed my time at Columbia but decided to leave because I felt I was becoming less able to do two things I really valued: working directly with SSS students, and working to make effective campus-wide change for SSS students. I hope to have a lot more time here at Oakton to work with you and find out how our program can make Oakton an even better place for you.I received my bachelor's degree in psychology in 1997 from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and my Ph.D. in learning disabilities from Northwestern University in 2002.

I'm originally from a small town in Maryland (Salisbury), where I return as often as possible to spend time with my family, with whom I am very close. I just got married 3 months ago, and I enjoy exercising, movies, music, dining out, and reading. My personal goals for the next two or so years are to wrap up the wedding by sending out thank-you cards and putting together an album, publish portions of my doctoral dissertation, and to finish coursework so that I can be certified to teach K-12 special education, although I am no sure I ever plan to teach k-12. I view life as a journey that can take us in all sorts of directions, so I'm always trying to be prepared for the next potential fork in the road Again, please stop in to say hello, to update us on any change in your contact information, or to find out more about the events were planning. Have a great semester!
