Learn
CPR and first aid by enrolling in classes offered by the Alliance
for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College. All featured courses
meet at Oakton's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road.
CPR
and Standard First Aid (HEA E01-02) combines adult CPR with
first aid. Learn what to do in medical emergencies involving heart
attack, bone fracture, bleeding, and poisoning. Students will receive
a one-year CPR and three-year standard first aid recognition from
the American Red Cross. Participants should wear pants and bring a
blanket to class. Two-week session meets Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.,
starting Nov. 4. Course fee is $75.
CPR
Rescue (HEA E05-02) covers adult, child, and infant CPR,
along with mouth-to-mouth, and the Heimlich Maneuver. Disposable mannequin
practice shields are provided for safety. American Heart Association
recognition (AHA card) is available for an additional $3. A CPR handbook
is available for $3. Wear clothing suitable for kneeling on the floor.
One-week session meets 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11. Course
fee is $35.
