October
is the month to enjoy a new jazz concert and lecture series sponsored
by Oakton Community College's Alliance for Lifelong Learning. The
four-week series meets Noon - 2:30 p.m., Wednesdays, starting Oct.
4, at the Cavalcade of Music Foundation, 7924 N. Lincoln Ave. Tickets
are $12 per event.
The
series kicks off Oct. 4 with music historian Jack Diamond presenting
The Benny Goodman Era (MUS C30-01); on Oct. 11, Jim
Kendros, composer and music researcher, hosts Mancini, Miller,
and More (MUS C31-01); on Oct. 18, music educator Mike Delaney
presents Classic Swing Film (MUS C32-01); and Popular
Songwriting, 1930s to 1950s (MUS C33-01) concludes the series
on Oct. 25.
The
concert and lecture series also features music by the Bob Acri Jazz
Octet. Acri, founder of the Cavalcade of Music Foundation (located
in the old Skokie Theater building), is a pianist and composer who
has played professionally for more than 65 years in Chicago.
