Summer
is for shaping up in a variety of fun classes offered by the Alliance
for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community College. All featured courses
meet at the Prairie View Community Center, 6834 Dempster St., Morton
Grove.
Senior
Exercise (PED E53) is a program, designed especially for
seniors, emphasizing non-vigorous exercise, while increasing mobility
and flexibility. Two seven-week sessions are available: 9 - 10 a.m.,
Tuesdays, starting June 12, or 9 - 10 a.m., Thursdays, starting June
14. Course fee for either section is $65.
Gentle
Moves (PED B10-31) is designed for individuals whose health
has been compromised due to being overweight, Type II diabetes, arthritis,
or high blood pressure. Students will perform gentle movements to
help improve their quality of life. Six-week course meets Mondays
and Wednesdays, 7:15 - 8:15 p.m., starting June 18. Course fee is
$102.
Pilates
(PED EO4-31, PED C43-31) is a method of exercise designed to stretch,
strengthen, and balance the body. Benefits include improved lung capacity,
circulation, and coordination. Beginner and intermediate courses are
offered. Beginning Pilates meets Tuesdays, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., starting
June 19 for six weeks. Intermediate Pilates meets Fridays, 5:30 -
6:30 p.m., starting June 22 for six weeks. Course fee for either section
is $76.
Spinning
(PED C42-31) is a high-energy class where students ride a stationary
bike at their own pace for a great cardiovascular workout. Bring a
small towel and water bottle to class. Six-week course meets Saturdays,
7:30 - 8:30 a.m., starting June 23. Course fee is $84.
