Expressionistic Paintings on Display at Oakton

An exhibition of expressionistic paintings - all recent gifts to the permanent art collection at Oakton Community College - opens Thursday, Sept. 7, at Koehnline Museum of Art, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.

"New Acquisitions: Figurative and Abstract Expressionistic Paintings" features more than 20 paintings by Joseph Meert (1905-1989), a student of Thomas Hart Benton who worked as a WPA artist during the Depression. Works by Julius Kramer (b. 1920), Arnold Blanch (1896-1968), Emil Bisttram (1895-1976), and Matthew Ziegler (1897-1981) also are included.

The exhibit runs through Friday, Sept. 29, and is free and open to the public. Regular museum hours are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturdays.
