the summer enjoying movies, musicals, or classical music in new summer
courses offered by the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College.
All featured classes meet at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln
Ave., Skokie.
The
Art of Alfred Hitchcock: Big Movies in Small Places (HUM S49-91)
looks at the director's technique of intentionally using a limited
set to create intensified drama. The course will examine how this
method works in "Lifeboat," "Dial M for Murder," and "Rear Window."
This six-week class meets 2:30 - 4 p.m., starting Tuesday, July 6.
Course fee is $70.
New
Trends in Musical Theater (MUS C02-91) analyzes four musicals
that point to new trends in the genre, including "The Producers,"
"The Lion King," and "Urinetown." This four-week course meets 1- 4
p.m., starting Monday, July 12. Course fee is $70.
Great
Romantic Violin Concertos, Part II (MUS E83-91) is an exploration
of great violin concertos of the 19th and early 20th century, including
the works of Bruch, Glazunov, and Khachaturian. Great
Romantic Violin Concertos, Part I is not a prerequisite. This four-week
class meets 10 - 11:30 a.m., starting Wednesday, July 14. Course fee
is $60.
Students
age 60 and over who live within Oakton's district pay half-tuition
for Emeritus noncredit classes. Those who have registered for an Oakton
credit class within the last three years or an Alliance for Lifelong
Learning noncredit class within the last five years may register using
the Touch-Tone system by dialing 847-635-1616. Touch-Tone registration
