The
Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College celebrates its 25th anniversary
10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1, at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus,
7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. The Emeritus Program offers credit and
noncredit learning opportunities to "the student who wasn't born yesterday."
"Emeritus
students are extraordinary," says Leona Hoelting, manager of the Emeritus
Program. "At their age it's often difficult for them to come out,
but that doesn't stop them from wanting to learn. That's why we wanted
to do something special for our 25th anniversary."
The
celebration opens at 10 a.m. with Lorenzo Ghiberti's Gates
of Paradise, an opportunity to learn about the Art Institute
of Chicago's exhibit focusing on the restoration process of three
panel doors for Florence's Baptistry by a Renaissance master. At 12:30
p.m., examine how Shakespeare's tragic love story has inspired some
of the world's greatest musical compositions in the presentation,
Romeo and Juliet: Ageless Story, Ageless Music.
The
celebration concludes at 2:30 p.m. with a 25th Anniversary
Tea, with Paris-born cabaret singer Claudia Hommel performing
French standards and original songs.
