Free Valentine's Day Concert at Oakton

Celebrate Valentine's Day with a free concert at Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. New Quartet, a classical, jazz, and world music ensemble, will perform in the cafeteria from Noon to 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14.

Sponsored by Oakton's Emeritus Program and Robert Morris College, the concert will feature traditional love songs in celebration of Valentine's Day. New Quartet's chamber repertoire includes selections by Bach, Mozart, Bartok, and Stravinsky, as well as jazz classics by Duke Ellington and tangos by Astor Piazolla.

New Quartet is comprised of bassist Doug Lofstrom, formerly with the Metropolis Symphony Orchestra; James Sanders, violinist with the Ravinia Festival Orchestra and Symphony; multi-reedist Michael Levin, who has performed with Diane Schuur, the Temptations, and others; and pianist Leandro Lopez-Varady, who has toured with Eldee Young.
