Celebrate
Valentine's Day with a free concert at Oakton Community College, 7701
N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. New Quartet, a classical, jazz, and
world music ensemble, will perform in the cafeteria from Noon to 1
p.m., Monday, Feb. 14.
Sponsored
by Oakton's Emeritus Program and Robert Morris College, the concert
will feature traditional love songs in celebration of Valentine's
Day. New Quartet's chamber repertoire includes selections by Bach,
Mozart, Bartok, and Stravinsky, as well as jazz classics by Duke Ellington
and tangos by Astor Piazolla.
New
Quartet is comprised of bassist Doug Lofstrom, formerly with the Metropolis
Symphony Orchestra; James Sanders, violinist with the Ravinia Festival
Orchestra and Symphony; multi-reedist Michael Levin, who has performed
with Diane Schuur, the Temptations, and others; and pianist Leandro
Lopez-Varady, who has toured with Eldee Young.
Oakton's
Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars,
and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences
with peers age 50 and over.
