Program at Oakton Community College. All featured classes meet at
Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
Jane
Austen - From Golden Pen to Silver Screen (HUM C07-71) is
a film fest based on two of Jane Austen's novels, Pride and Prejudice
and Emma. Films inspired by these novels, including Bridget
Jones's Diary and Clueless, also will be shown. Six-week
course meets Mondays, 12:45 - 3:45 p.m., starting April 16. Course
fee is $80.
Treasures
of Colonial Mexico (ART D09-71) examines the art history
of the Mexican heartland, including stunning murals and Spanish colonial
style architecture. One-week session meets 1 - 2:30 p.m., Wednesday,
April 18. Course fee is $20.
Another
Walk Down the Mean Streets: Six More Films Noir (HUM E96-71)
explores the femme fatales, broken heroes, seductive environments,
and unique narrative devices of film noir. Films to be screened include:
Mildred Pierce (1945), Gilda (1946), The Big
Sleep (1946), The Third Man (1949), The Asphalt
Jungle (1950), and Pickup on South Street (1953). Six-week
class meets Fridays, 9:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., starting April 20. Course
fee is $100.
