Jewish Culture Expert Gives Free Oakton Lecture

One of the world's foremost authorities on Jewish studies kicks off a national lecture tour in January at Oakton Community College's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

Xu Xin, a professor of Jewish culture at Nanjing University in the People's Republic of China, visits Oakton at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 11. His 90-minute lecture, "The Jews of China: From Ancient to Modern Times," is free and open to the public.

Xin, president of the China Judaic Studies Association, recently returned from a Jerusalem Summit in Israel. He is the author of Legends of the Chinese Jews of Kaifeng and Anti-Semitism: How and Why, as well as numerous articles on Judaic studies.

Oakton's Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars, and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences with peers age 50 and over.
