Coffeehouse Series Examines Mayan Culture

Ancient Mayan civilization is the subject of a series of discussions at Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

Mysticism of the Ancient Maya (PHL E57-91) examines this sophisticated society that once occupied Mesoamerica. This "What's Brewing?" seminar explores Mayan religion and culture, including unlocking the mysteries of the civilization's use of hieroglyphics. In coffeehouse tradition, "What's Brewing?" lectures include coffee and a treat. Seven-week seminar meets 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., Wednesdays, starting July 6. Course fee is $80.

Oakton's Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars, and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences with peers age 50 and over.
