From American policies to international politics, the Oakton Community College Emeritus Program explores the history, culture, and government of various countries in "Passport to the World," its foreign relations lecture series.The 10-week series meets from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays, March 27 - June 5, in the Petty Auditorium at the Skokie Public Library, 5215 Oakton St.
Lectures for this series include:
- "Zimbabwe's Land of Distribution," a review of Zimbabwe's history and current political strategy (March 27)
- "Iraq," an examination this nation's rich and powerful history from cultural, political, and ethnic perspectives (May 15)
- "Bush and Putin: U.S. - Russia Relations Through the Presidential Prism," a study of the "special ties" that exist between Putin and Bush (May 29)
Other talks during the series are:
- "George W. Bush and International Human Rights" (April 3)
- "Pervez Musharraf's 'Sustainable Democratic Order'" (April 10)
- "Europe's New Nationalism: Fear of Immigration" (April 24)
- "Neoliberal Experiments in Latin America: Unkept Promises" (May 1)
- "Central Asia, The Land of Genghis Khan" (May 8)
- "The State of Our World: A Commentary" (May 22)
- "U.S.A Patriot Act and Immigration Policies" (June 5).
