now for Passport to the World, a series offered by
the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community College. The 10-week foreign
relations lecture series meets Fridays, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., starting
Sept. 28, at Oakton's Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave. Seating
is limited and available on a first come, first-served basis.
The
series begins with a discussion on Darfur featuring
James Burke, former director of Catholic Relief Services for the Archdiocese
of Chicago. Burke will lead a discussion from his perspective as a
relief worker in this politically troubled area of Sudan. The series
continues with The Venture into Iraq: Why Was It a Failure
(Oct. 5); Latin America (Oct. 12); Iran:
A Flawed Democracy (Oct. 19); Israel Lobby Debate
(Oct. 26); The Fate of Enemy Combatants (Nov. 2);
Peacekeeping in Difficult Political Terrain (Nov.
9); Terrorism (Nov. 16); The State of Our
World (Nov. 30); and Europe: A Commentary
(Dec. 7).
The
fee is $60 for in-district residents age 60 and above, $75 for out-of-district
residents and those under 60. Registration is for the entire series;
half price tuition does not apply.
Oakton's
Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars,
and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences
