Oakton Emeritus Presents 'People and Places' Series

See the world through the eyes of veteran travelers by enrolling in the People and Places lecture series offered by Oakton Community College's Emeritus Program. The four-week series meets 1 - 2:15 p.m., Wednesdays, starting Sept. 1 at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie, and 1 - 2:15 p.m., Thursdays, starting Sept. 2 at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road.

The series begins with India - The Resplendent Sub-Continent, a showcase of freelancer Paul Berg's photos of historic India, including the cities of Rajasthan, Agra, Calcutta, and Darjaeling. Memories from cruises down the Volga River are rekindled during To Russia with Love and Laptops, and Arts of Africa: Beadwork-Painted Houses-Songs features an armchair tour of native African art. The series concludes with Columbia with Carlos Camargo, a review of Colombian art history since the 1950s.

In-district residents age 60 and older pay $15 for the lecture series; those who live out-of-district or who are under 60 pay $20. For a complete listing of Emeritus classes, course fees, seminars, and events call 847-635-1414, or visit www.oakton.edu/emeritus.
