Spend
the summer enjoying the arts or getting in shape through Emeritus
Program classes offered by Oakton Community College. The following
classes meet at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.,
Skokie.
The
Beloved Impressionists (ART C74-91) examines the works of famous
artists, including Claude Monet, Edgar Degas and Edouard Monet. This
four-week course meets 10 - 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, starting June
1. Course fee is $50.
Learning
to Draw Portraits (ART C63-91) develops composition skills using
basic drawing media. This six-week class meets 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. on
Mondays, starting June 14. Course fee is $90.
Beginning
Hatha Yoga (PED S10-91) teaches stretching, breathing, and relaxation
techniques. Students should bring a small pillow and a mat or towel
to class. This six-week course meets 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays,
starting June 2. Course fee is $72.
Tai
Chi Chih, Part I: For the Body That Wasn't Born Yesterday (PED
E30-91) instructs students about this form of martial arts that is
designed to balance, increase, and integrate energy. This six-week
course meets 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. on Mondays, starting June 7.
Students
age 60 and over who reside within Oakton's district pay half-tuition
for Emeritus noncredit classes. Those who have registered for an Oakton
credit class within the last three years or an Alliance for Lifelong
Learning noncredit class within the last five years may register using
the Touch-Tone system by dialing 847-635-1616. Touch-Tone registration
requires payment using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
