The history
of World War II and Vivaldi's classic Four Seasons symphony
come alive in courses offered by the Emeritus Program at Oakton Community
College.
World
War I and II: Men and Their Machines (HIS C06-61) profiles the
evolution of tanks and other armored warfare from 1914 to 1945. The
course also highlights two famous World War II tank commanders, George
Patton and Erwin Rommel. Two-week class meets 10 - 11:30 a.m., Thursdays,
starting Dec. 2, at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln
Ave., Skokie. Course fee is $30.
Vivaldi's
Immortal Four Seasons: Fall (BOT E11-61) allows students to experience
and learn the history of Vivaldi's classic symphony. Poems originally
included with the composition also will be examined. One-week seminar
meets 10:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Chicago Botanic
Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe. Course fee is $20 and includes
lunch.
Oakton's
Emeritus Program offers credit and noncredit courses, lectures, seminars,
and tours, while providing a chance to share learning experiences
with peers age 50 and over.
